- Complex Mental Health Conditions: Psychiatric care is often critical for managing complex conditions such as schizophrenia, PTSD, and personality disorders.
- Forensic Psychiatry: If you are involved in legal proceedings or require a forensic psychiatric evaluation, A/Professor Jeyasingam’s expertise can be invaluable.

Preparing for Your Psychiatric Assessment
Before seeing a psychiatrist, consider what issues you are facing and what you hope to achieve from the consultation. Some conditions can be addressed in one session, while others may require ongoing appointments or medication trials.
For those seeking ADHD assessments, NSW prescribing guidelines require evidence of attention-related difficulties before age 12. This evidence can include:
- Prior stimulant prescriptions
- School reports detailing attention issues
- Reports from previous healthcare providers
- Testimonials from family or friends
It’s important to note that a psychologist’s diagnosis of ADHD does not automatically mean stimulant medication will be prescribed, as other mental health conditions can contribute to attention difficulties. Your psychiatrist will review all options and explain the risks and benefits of different treatments.
You may also find it beneficial to bring a support person to your consultation. With your consent, they may provide additional information to assist with your assessment.
