A court report psychologist prepares expert psychological assessments used in legal settings. These reports help courts understand a person’s mental health, cognitive functioning, trauma history, and capacity for change or rehabilitation.

Our 3-Step Assessment Process

The court report process is delivered over three structured sessions, usually on consecutive days:

1. Initial Intake – Gathering background, context, and legal objectives.

2. Clinical Interview – In-depth assessment of psychological health and functioning.

3. Final Interview – Review of supporting material and final reflections.

Following the sessions, the psychologist compiles a detailed report tailored to the specific requirements of the court.

Costs are transparent: each session is billed individually at $300.

Once all sessions are complete, the formal court report is prepared for $1,850 (incl. GST); Family court matters for $2,500 (incl. GST)

A 50% deposit is required before report writing begins, and the final report is released upon full payment.

What if I’m entitled to Legal Aid?

If you’re receiving Legal Aid, you may be eligible for partial or full coverage of the court report fee.

Local Court matters: Up to $1,000 + GST
District Court matters: Up to $2,000 + GST

Please note:

Consultation session fees are not covered under Legal Aid and will still need to be paid privately. Every case is different, so we recommend giving us a call on (02) 7256 7070 to see how we can assist.

How long does it take to create the report?

Report preparation begins during your three sessions with the psychologist.

The timing of the final report depends on:

Your upcoming court date
Instructions provided by your solicitor (or directly from you if self-represented)
Our current workload and psychologist availability

Once we have this information, we’ll confirm an estimated delivery date for the report.

What if I need changes to the report after it’s been finalised?

We’re happy to make minor amendments (e.g., spelling corrections, formatting tweaks) at no additional cost.

However, substantive edits or changes that require significant time will be charged at our standard hourly rate.

What happens after court? Do I need to continue seeing a psychologist?

In some cases, the court may order ongoing psychological treatment (often for 12 months) as a condition of your sentence.

Where possible, we recommend continuing with the same psychologist who prepared your court report. If that’s not feasible, we’ll connect you with another suitable clinician from our team.

These sessions are mandatory, and we may be asked to report back to the court if appointments are not attended.
