Meet Marya Setrak, a Provisional Psychologist at our Parramatta clinic!
- What made you get into the field that you are currently in?
- Well, I grew up in a rural country town called Parkes in New South Wales, so a lot of mental health was kind of limited out there, so I guess my passion came from there… wanting to make it more accessible.
- What are your hobbies?
- I go to the gym four nights a week. I am into weightlifting, a bit of a gym freak, and also hanging out with family and friends. I have my little cousins which I happen to call my nieces and nephews, although they’re not my nieces and nephews, but I play around with them, and I enjoy that.
- What’s the best advice you were ever given and by whom?
- Well, an old friend once said to me, “If you can do something in five minutes, do it immediately.”
- What energizes you outside of work?
- Exercise and Coffee!
- What’s your favourite holiday?
- Probably anywhere relaxing, with light, clear waters. Is it stereotypical to say Maldives?
- What motivates you at work?
- Just seeing my clients grow, becoming independent and progressing throughout treatment.
- How would your friends describe you?
- Well, I actually asked my friends this morning as I was going to describe myself as helpful, and this is what they wrote: Very intelligent, honest and ambitious.
- Do you have a favourite sports team?
- Um, I don’t have a favourite sports team, but I do enjoy watching the Australian Open and Nadal is my favourite player. I also watch the World Cup and the Asia cup, but I don’t have a favourite team.
- What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?
- Oh, no! I hate this question! Um, probably my phone, my twin sister… I’d probably take her… and weights.
- If you could choose a superpower, what would it be and why?
- Ah, that one is easy. I’ll say teleportation. Just to kind of cut down on travel time because you can’t buy time with money.
